A legend even in his own time, Noble Chalfant helped build Park Hill Golf Club in 1930 and became assistant pro there in 1938. Chalfant started his career as a caddie at City Park and its sand greens in 1924.
Chalfant’s storied career took him to the University of Iowa after getting Park Hill growing, worked for The Denver Post, gave that up to replace Ky Lafoon as pro at Grand Junction in 1939, came back to Park Hill as head pro (1950-1954), and then went to Denver Country Club from 1955 to 1966.
Noble was a prime mover in many things around Denver, among them the old Park Hill Invitational that attracted big name players from around the country. Chalfant was a constant playing partner with George Zaharias and wife Babe Didrikson and off-course exploits were generally more exciting than golf.
In 1957 Chalfant co-founded the 31st Section of the PGA of America with Gene Root. Noble, then president of the Colorado Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Section, was the guiding force in handling the details, the formal Charter Application and in pursuing the necessary formalities leading to the separation of the Chapter from the Rocky Mountain Section.
Noble was named the Colorado PGA’s Golf Professional of the Year in 1968.
