Marcia Bailey

A graduate of Colorado Women’s College, Marcia Bailey dominated women’s amateur golf in the state, winning the Denver Women’s Invitation Golf Championship twice (1963, 1967) and the Colorado Women’s Golf Association Match Play Championship four times (1963, 1965, 1966, 1967). She was a contestant in several national-level tournaments, including the U.S. Women’s Open. At the 1963 Trans-Mississippi, she captured medalist honors and was a semifinalist. As a volunteer leader, Marcia served on the CWGA Board of Directors from 1965-1967.
In 1968, Marcia turned professional, eventually earning her LPGA Tour card and playing several years on Tour. At the same time, she served as vice president and secretary of the LPGA’s Central Section, and taught at Hyland Hills Golf Course and later at Adams County Golf Course.
In 1978, Marcia and her husband Jim created and adminstered the first golf school in the Denver area, The Bailey Golf School at Kennedy Golf Course, which served approximately 1,000 golfers per year.
In 1980, Marcia was the top sectional qualifier for the LPGA Championship and in 1982 she received a Master Professional Certification. That same year, the Baileys established The Bailey Golf Tours, a travel program in which golfers could receive instruction and play golf at fine resorts around the world.
In 1986, Marcia co-founded Golf For Fun, a golf program for the disabled, and she authored a manual for teaching the disabled. She also created and hosted an annual fundraising tournament that benefited the disabled.
In 2002, Marcia was selected one of the top 50 women teachers by Golf for Women magazine.
