Jack Sommers has earned enough golf trophies to stock a warehouse. As a member of the University of New Mexico golf team, he won the prestigious Broadmoor Men’s Invitation in 1972. He earned a spot in the 1977 U.S. Open at Southern Hills and played briefly on the PGA Tour.
The Grand Junction native is a four-time Colorado PGA Section champion, won the Rocky Mountain Open Championship four times, and played in several PGA Championships.
Sommers also conducted the Rocky Mountain Open for more than 15 years during stints as director of golf at Grand Junction’s Tiara Rado and Lincoln Park golf courses. He is a past president of the West Chapter of the Colorado PGA.
Sommers played a couple of events on the Champions Tour in 2001, finishing 40th in the U.S. Senior Open and 38th in the SBC Senior Open.
