It’s no small feat to gain induction into the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame, but to do it at the age of just 36 attests to Janet Moore’s accomplishments in the game. By virtue of an outstanding amateur career, Moore became the 18th woman to join the state’s Golf Hall of Fame. Moore dominated the Colorado Women’s Golf Association Stroke Play Championship during the 1990s, winning the event five times in the course of seven years. And from 1994 through ’97, Moore was the lone stroke play champion, claiming four straight titles, a record that hasn’t been matched in the long history of the tournament.
Janet also has teamed with husband Kent Moore—winner of both the CGA Stroke and Match Play during the 1980s—for four various mixed team championships, and she’s claimed eight CWGA Mashie crowns and five Brassie titles.
A Denver native and product of Wheat Ridge High School, Janet went on to play golf at the University of Arizona, making the Pac-10 All-Star team in 1986 and playing in three U.S. Women’s Amateurs during her college days. At the 1994 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur, Moore advanced to the round of 16. She has played in 30 USGA events. Moore has several club championships to her credit—sixteen at Cherry Hills Country Club and five at Lakewood CC. In 1998, the year after her fourth consecutive stroke play victory, Moore was presented with the golf award given out by the Sportswomen of Colorado, marking the second time she’s received that honor.
Moore coached the Wheaton (Ill.) College women’s golf team from 2011-2015. She has served as president of the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame, and as of 2020, she has won 22 CGA/CWGA titles.
