Tub Morris, who earned the nickname “Mr. Golf” for his many years in leading Colorado golf activities, was born in Denver on Sept. 28, 1886. He was a coach and history teacher at West High School from 1915 until he retired in 1951.
He became an active member in the Colorado Golf Association’s board of directors in 1917. He also served as the golf editor for the Rocky Mountain News from 1925 until 1940. In 1939, he was appointed to membership in the United States Golf Association and named regional affairs committeeman.
From his home club, Lakewood Country Club, Tub won two Colorado Golf Association State Match Play Championships, in 1924 and 1927. In 1928 he won the prestigious Broadmoor Men’s Invitation.
The CGA Stroke Play Championship trophy is named in his honor.
